I am making this page
because I see so many people out there who just aren't taking the time to
do some research on drag racing before they go out to the track. The most
common mistakes are:
-
Driving their car through the water and doing a
burn out in the water box when using street tires. This will not work and
will cause you to have less traction at the line. Not to mention every one
at the track who knows about drag racing will know you don't have a
clue....
-
Doing a Pro style
burnout through the staging lights thus infuriating the staging
official. This again is quite comical to lookers on and embarrassing
to you. It's also quite easy to forget to take the car out of
reverse once you've backed up and staged thereby causing you to
accelerate backwards at the light. Don't laugh, I've seen it happen.
-
Don't forget to roll
up your windows, put on your seat belt, DON'T TALK ON YOUR CELL
PHONE, turn off your stereo etc. Concentrate at the task at hand
because it can kill you it you're not careful. Although it would be
tough with a street car that only goes 15.xx or slower, anything is
possible.
-
Not reading or
watching before attempting to have fun. Why try a dangerous sport
without reading up on it first. Better yet, try and find somebody
who looks like they're having fun and ask for a ride along
I'm not going to rewrite
everything about bracket racing because it's been done already. The
links below will allow you to learn what I have learned and make drag
racing a much more enjoyable time. I really suggest that you get into
some competitions in bracket racing at your local track as they can be
quite fun. Besides your car isn't going to miraculously pick up a 1/2
second while you're at the track so you might as well find something to
make it more enjoyable. After a few nights at the track it gets boring
without something to make you improve your reaction time and knowledge
of your car. |
